Ingredients for the Blended Overnight Oats
- Rolled oats – I buy organic and gluten free oats. Sprouted oats is also a good option because it helps with digestion.
- Large Medjool Dates – if they are too dry rehydrate them in some hot water for 10-20 minutes before blending.
- Unsweetened Cacao powder – you can replace it with unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Milk of choice – I’ve tested the recipe with whole, oat and cashew milk. It worked well with all. Depending on the milk you use this recipe could be dairy free and vegan.
- Maple syrup – I’ve also tested this recipe with pure allulose syrup.
- Fresh strawberries – the sweeter the better. If they are not sweed you might need to add more maple syrup.
- Strawberry jam – I like to use sugar free strawberry jam in all of my recipes. My favorite brands are Crofters and St. Dalfour
- Chocolate of choice – I used refined sugar free chocolate sweetened with alulose. Depending on the chocolate you use this recipe could be dairy free and vegan.

Equipment
- Measuring cups and spoons – use pitchers for the liquid ingredients.
- Blender, food processor or smoothie maker– to blend the oats. I used my Nutribullet.
- Jars with lids– mine were 9 oz jars. I bought them from a Home Goods store, but these are similar.

Helpful Tips for Perfect Blended Overnight Oats
- Pit the dates carefully.
Always check your dates before blending. A hidden pit can damage your blender. If your dates are too dry rehydrate them in some hot water for 10-20 minutes before blending. - Chill between adding layers.
After pouring the chocolate oat layer into the jars, place them in the fridge. While you blend the strawberry layer, the chocolate oats have time to set. This helps keep the layers clean and defined. - Wash the blender between layers.
Rinse the blade and blending cup between the chocolate and strawberry layers. This keeps the flavors and colors from mixing. - Refrigerate before serving.
Store the layered oats in the fridge for at least 2 hours. For the best texture and flavor, refrigerate them overnight. - Melt the chocolate gently.
Use low heat to prevent burning. I melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30–40 seconds, stirring every 10 seconds. Add the coconut oil at the end to thin it out. - Keep the magic shell thin.
Spread the melted chocolate in a very thin layer on top. This makes it easier to crack and gives you that satisfying magic shell effect.

Storage and Serving
Store the blended overnight oats in food-safe containers or jars with lids in the refrigerator. They keep well for 3 to 4 days when stored properly.
I do not recommend freezing this recipe. Freezing affects the texture and can cause the layers to separate once thawed.
Serve these blended overnight oats cold, straight from the jar. The chilled texture helps the layers stay firm and makes the magic shell easy to crack.
If you start a jar and don’t finish it in one sitting, return it to the fridge right away. Try to finish that jar the same day. Eating directly from the jar introduces bacteria, which can continue to multiply over time even when refrigerated. Once a jar has been started, its storage time is shorter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make this without dates?
Yes. You can replace the dates with honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup. If you add about 2 tablespoons of liquid sweetener, reduce the milk by the same amount to keep the chocolate layer thick and prevent the layers from mixing.
Can I skip the jam?
Absolutely. The jam adds extra sweetness and another layer of flavor, but it’s completely optional.
Can I make this without a blender?
Yes, as long as you use a blending tool. A food processor, smoothie maker, or immersion blender will work. I haven’t tested this recipe without blending, and it won’t work if the ingredients are only chopped.
