This is a customizable recipe. You can add whatever toppings you like. I usually add nuts or seeds to my smoothie bowls for some protein. You can also add your favorite protein powder. To add some grains to the recipe you can add oats or granola. Some cooked quinoa or puffed brown rice can give you more nutrients and extra texture. Feel free to add whatever you like.

Depending on the milk you use for this recipe this bowl can be gluten free, vegan and heart healthy. I used cashew milk when I prepared it the last time. In the past I’ve tested it with whole and other nut milks. I always get great results.

Helpful tips about preparing the dragon fruit smoothie bowl
Use frozen fruit for this recipe. Fresh fruits won’t create the proper thickness. The consistency of this bowl has to be similar to a soft serve ice cream.
You need a powerful blender and patience when making a smoothie bowl. You might feel tempted to add more water or milk to the mixture, but don’t do it. That is going to ruin the texture and consistency of the smoothie bowl. We are looking for a soft serve consistency. Start by pulsing the ingredients a few times and stir between each cycle. I found out that using a food processor works better than a blender.

As soon as your smoothie is ready transfer it in a bowl and add your favorite toppings. I added sliced banana, blueberries and coconut chips.
Serve and consume right away. Don’t store leftovers.
For this recipe I used cubed dragon fruit. You can also find it in a purée form. I purchase frozen dragon fruit from Walmart or Sam’s Club. Look in the frozen fruit and vegetable aisle.
