This easy quinoa bake is one of my favorite breakfast meals. I make it all the time with different ingredients. I like to prepare it with different fruits, or with peanut butter and chocolate. Today’s quinoa bake is with apples, raisins and cinnamon. Therefore, it is perfect for Fall because it contains delicious seasonal fruits and nuts. I love this flavor combination so much that I don’t wait for Fall to make it. I eat it make it all year long.

Ingredients for the Easy quinoa bake

  • Quinoa is one of the few plant foods that contains all nine essential amino acids. This makes it an excellent source of protein. Quinoa is high on fiber, manganese, phosphorus, magnesium and many vitamins. It is also a low-calorie food that will keep you full for a long time. 
  • Apples are full of nutrients. They are one of the most nutritious fruits you can consume. Apples are great for your gut because they are high in fiber and contain pectin. Pectin is a prebiotic that feeds the beneficial gut bacteria.
  • Walnuts are a great source of plant-based protein. High in monounsaturated fats, magnesium, fiber and vitamin B6.
  • Milk -Depending on the type of milk you use it can provide variety of nutrients and benefits to your health.
  • Cinnamon -delicious spice that contains antioxidants and has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Raisins – high in natural sugars and fiber. Great for digestion issues.

Why should you make this quinoa bake

You should make this recipe because it is delicious. The cooked apples taste like caramel. The quinoa has the perfect creamy texture. The cinnamon tastes cozy and it warms you up. Every bite is so full of flavor and textures.

This breakfast meal takes 10 minutes to prepare, and the oven will do the rest. You can make it ahead of time and store in the refrigerator. I like to eat it warm or cold.

This recipe is easy and very high in nutrients. It contains foods that will provide you with the energy you need to start the day.

The recipe doesn’t contain any refined sugar. I used maple syrup as a sweetener. The apples and raisins also add enough sweetness. No need for sugar.

This quinoa bake is also naturally grain and gluten free. Depending on the milk you use this recipe can be vegan, Paleo and dairy free.

Helpful tips about making the quinoa bake

Always rinse quinoa before cooking. This will help wash off a bitter-tasting compound, called saponin.

I tested this recipe several times before I share. I wanted to find the method that gives you the best cooked quinoa and I did. The secret is to bake it covered for the first 30 minutes and then uncover for the rest of the baking time. This creates steam and the quinoa becomes fluffy. 

I’ve tried this recipe with whole, almond, cashew and oat milk. Every single time cooks perfectly. You can use any milk that you like.

I like to use sweet apples for this quinoa bake. My favorites are Fuji, but I’ve also used Gala and Honeycrisp apples. Use unsweetened raisins. Raisins are naturally sweet. In my opinion they don’t need extra sugar.

It is best to use an oven safe pot with lid for this recipe. If you don’t have one you can use tin foil to cover your baking dish. I’ve tested this recipe in an aluminum square pan with 9.5 inch sides and a 10 inch ceramic round dish. Both times it worked great.

If you feed more people, you can double the recipe and use a bigger baking dish.

You can prepare this breakfast bake ahead of time and keep it in the fridge for 3-5 days.

  • ½ cup uncooked quinoa
  • 2 cups milk of choice I use cashew, almond or whole milk
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup raisins no sugar added
  • 1 large apple (or two small) peeled, chopped to cubes, core removed


  • raw walnuts, more maple syrup


  • Preheat the oven to 355F.
  • Measure ½ cup of quinoa, transfer it into fine mesh strainer and rinse it under running water.
  • Peel and remove the seed and the core from one large apple. Cut it to ½ inch cubes.
  • In an oven safe pot with lid add the quinoa, milk, cinnamon, raisins, apples, maple syrup and stir.
  • Cover with a lid (or tin foil) and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the lid and bake for 20 more minutes.
  • Serve warm or cold, topped with walnuts and maple syrup to taste.
