Homemade Fajita Seasoning

Homemade Fajita Seasoning

This homemade fajita seasoning is perfect for any type of fajita you want to make. It is smoky, spicy and it goes well with chicken, beef and shrimp. Homemade seasoning mixes are so easy to make and don’t contain unnecessary ingredients like sugar, corn or potato starch. You don’t need cheap fillers in your spice mixes. They kill the actual flavor of the fragrant herbs. I like to know what I’m putting in my body and what I’m feeding my family with.

Why should you make it?

Saving money.

There are some giant containers with fajita seasoning at Costco. Those are cheap. Why should I spend time making my own? The truth is that they are cheap because you are paying for potato starch instead of spices. You’re going to have to use more of those spices to add flavor to your dish. Also, you are consuming unwanted starches that can mess up your diet. Especially if you are on low carb or keto diet.

When you make your own spice blends you save a lot of money. I shop for spices from the bulk sections at Whole Foods or Sprouts. Next time you go to the store calculate the price per ounce at the bulk section verses the price per ounce for a pre-made spice mix. You will see that you are paying extra for the ready to use seasoning. That is because you pay for the mixing and the packaging of the spices.

Freshness

Think about this. This big container that they sell at Costco is mixed who knows when and it has a due date in five years. Even if you make fajita every week the flavor from the big container will be gone in a month or so. It is much more cost effective to buy spices from the bulk section, because there is a better turnaround. They are fresh and your spice mixes are more potent. Then you don’t need to use a lot in order to achieve good flavor.

You are in control.

Yes, you can decide how much heat you want in your homemade fajita seasoning. So, can entirely omit the chili if your kids don’t like spicy foods. Therefore, flavor can be adjusted to your likings.

It takes only five minutes

It really doesn’t take much time for you to make your own seasonings. Anyone can find five minutes to help develop the flavor of their meals. Instead of going to the store make your own seasonings at home and you will see that it is not a chore.
