Easy Homemade Whole Wheat Banana Waffles

Every time I have some overripe bananas I make these whole wheat banana waffles. They are such a delicious and nutritious way to start the day. Made with whole wheat flour, these waffles are packed with fiber and essential nutrients, making them a healthier option compared to traditional waffles. The natural sweetness of ripe bananas adds a burst of flavor without the need for added sugar. Whether you’re looking for a quick breakfast, a satisfying brunch, or even a snack, these waffles are the perfect choice for any time of day.
These waffles are incredibly easy to make and versatile enough to enjoy with your favorite toppings. Drizzle them with maple syrup, spread on some chocolate spread, or sprinkle chopped nuts for added texture and flavor. They store well in the fridge and freezer, so you can make a big batch and enjoy them throughout the week. When you’re ready to eat, simply reheat them in the toaster oven for a couple of minutes or warm them up in the microwave for a quick and tasty treat. You can even pack them in your kids’ lunchbox for a fun and healthy meal on the go!

Helpful tips when making banana waffles
Here are some helpful tips to ensure your waffles turn out perfectly every time:
- Preheat the waffle maker: Always preheat your waffle maker before pouring in the batter. This ensures that the waffles cook evenly and gives them a crispy, golden exterior.
- No mixer needed: Although I use a mixer in the video you don’t need a fancy mixer to make this recipe! A simple whisk or spoon will do the job just fine, making the process quick and easy.
- Mash the bananas to your preferred texture: Mash the bananas to the consistency you like—whether it’s smooth for a more uniform texture or with bigger chunks for added banana bites in every waffle.
- Don’t overmix the batter: Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can lead to waffles that are dense and chewy instead of light and fluffy.
- Different waffle makers may give different results: Keep in mind that waffle makers vary in size and heat, which can affect both the waffle texture and how many waffles the recipe yields. Adjust your cooking time as needed.

Serving, Storing and Preheating banana waffles
Here are some tips for serving, storing, and reheating your waffles to keep them fresh and delicious:
- Serving: Serve your waffles fresh and hot with your favorite toppings. I like to use maple syrup, whipped cream, chocolate spread, or chopped nuts. You can also add fresh fruit like berries or banana slices for an extra burst of flavor.
- Storing: To store leftovers, place the waffles in an airtight container or ziplock bag. Keep them in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze them for longer storage (up to 3 months). Freezing is a great option for meal prep or future breakfasts!
- Reheating: Reheat your waffles in a toaster oven for 1-2 minutes for a crispy finish. If you’re in a rush, a few seconds in the microwave will do the trick, though they may not be as crispy. Reheating makes it easy to enjoy them again without any hassle!
These tips will help you enjoy your waffles anytime, whether you’re serving them fresh or reheating them later.
