Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats That Actually Keep You Full

Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats are a delicious way to start the day. Unfortunately, most overnight oat recipes contain mainly oats. I noticed that when I ate mostly oats, I was searching for a snack an hour after breakfast. That is why I decided to upgrade the standard recipe with a powerful blend of chia seeds, ground flaxseed, and walnuts. The seeds and nuts add fiber, healthy fats, and protein. I noticed that this type of breakfast keeps me full for longer and gives me steady energy until lunchtime. I also noticed that my hormones feel much more stable since I started adding more seeds to my daily meals. The combination of cinnamon, apples, and raisins is one of my favorites. I always associate these flavors with early fall, when the weather starts to transition and I crave a cozy meal.

Why You’ll Love the Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats
Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast: This is a low-effort breakfast that takes just a few minutes to put together. Add all the ingredients to a jar, stir, and let the refrigerator do the work. You can prepare several jars at once and have breakfast or a snack ready in the fridge for several days.
Fast and Simple: You only need about 10 minutes of hands-on prep time. Measure, mix, and refrigerate. That’s it.
Minimal Cleanup: You mix everything directly in the jar you will use for serving. No mixing bowls or extra dishes to wash.
Make One or Meal Prep for Several Days: This recipe makes one generous serving. You can easily prepare as many jars as you need. Make one for tomorrow’s breakfast or prep several at once for the week.
Nutrient-Dense: Rolled oats, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, walnuts, and fresh apple bring plenty of fiber, protein, healthy fats, and omega-3 fatty acids to every bite.
Keeps You Full for Longer: The combination of fiber, healthy fats, and protein makes these overnight oats more satisfying than a bowl of oats alone. I find that they keep me going throughout the morning.
Delicious Fall Flavors: Crisp apple, warm cinnamon, sweet raisins, and a touch of maple syrup create a cozy, apple-pie-inspired flavor. It’s one of my favorite combinations for early fall.
Highly Customizable: You can easily adapt this recipe to your taste. Swap the apple for another fruit, use your favorite nuts, choose dairy or plant-based milk, or adjust the sweetener to your liking.

Helpful Tips for Making Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats
Measure the Ingredients Correctly
Use measuring cups and spoons for the dry ingredients. Use a liquid measuring cup or pitcher for the milk and other liquid ingredients. Accurate measurements help you get the right consistency.
Pick the Right Container
Use a food-safe jar or container with a tight-fitting lid. A container with a 16- to 17-ounce capacity works well for this recipe and gives you enough room to stir everything without making a mess.
Choose a Sweet Apple
I recommend a sweet apple variety for these apple cinnamon overnight oats. Fuji and Honeycrisp are my favorites. Tart green apples can overpower the other flavors in this recipe.
Check the Labels
Some milk, yogurt, and raisins contain added sugar. Check the labels and choose unsweetened options if you want to control the amount of added sugar in your overnight oats.
Add the Dry Ingredients First
Add the oats, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, and cinnamon to the jar first. Mix them together before adding the liquid ingredients. This helps distribute the chia seeds and flaxseed evenly and prevents them from clumping at the bottom.
Stir Thoroughly
Add the milk, yogurt, and liquid sweetener, then give everything a thorough stir with a fork or spoon. Scrape along the bottom and sides of the jar to make sure no dry oats or seeds remain trapped in the corners.
Refrigerate Overnight
Seal the jar tightly and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. About 8 hours gives the oats and seeds plenty of time to absorb the liquid and develop a creamy texture.
Add Fresh Crunch Before Serving
If you like a little texture contrast, save some walnuts or fresh apple slices to add just before serving. I love the softer texture of soaked walnuts and raisins, but adding a few fresh ones on top gives you a nice crunchy contrast.

Serving and Storing Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats
Serving: Serve your overnight oats chilled, straight from the refrigerator, for the best flavor and texture. You can enjoy them for breakfast, brunch, or as a filling afternoon snack. Before serving, add your favorite toppings, such as extra diced apple, walnuts, raisins, a spoonful of yogurt, a drizzle of maple syrup, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Use whatever toppings you enjoy or have on hand.
I like to eat half of the jar in the morning and save the other half for an afternoon snack. This makes it easy to enjoy one prepared jar throughout the day without making another meal.
Storage: Store overnight oats in a food-safe container with a tight-fitting lid in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Glass jars work especially well. Freezing is not recommended because thawing can change the creamy texture of the oats and seeds.
For food safety, avoid eating directly from the jar if you plan to store leftovers. A spoon that has been in your mouth can introduce bacteria into the oats. If you cannot finish the entire portion in one sitting, use a clean spoon to serve what you want to eat, then return the jar to the refrigerator right away. Once you have eaten directly from the jar, I recommend finishing the remaining oats by the end of the day.
